Holmes Battle of the Books team, The Bright Lights, placed second overall today at the IHSBOB-Iowa High School Battle of the Books. This competition is put on every year by the Iowa Council of Teachers of English. Congratulations to coaches Megann Tresemer and Clarie Vander Wiel, and the Bright Lights Clara Strouse, Evan Patel, Alex Barbu, Eliza Hoover, Natalie Moran, and Suefia Tabei!

Eight Holmes students were selected to participate in Northeast Iowa Honor Choir. They will participate in a day of workshops and preparation with a guest conductor and then perform in a concert in the evening. Congratulations to Eleanor Burnett, Meryl Pruisner, Jasmine Elgersma, Millie Webster, Daniel Juza, Tyler Sebree, Landon Elster, and Samuel Fisher.

On Wednesday April 15, 2026 Holmes teacher, Kevin Kuker, was surprised by his family and the McElroy Trust with the Gold Star Teacher Award. Congratulations Mr. Kuker! Your Holmes Spring Semester Concert Series is just around the corner. Mark your calendar and join us to celebrate the hard work and the success they have achieved.  Vocal Music, May 19, Band, May 27, and Orchestra, May 28. All concerts are at 7:00 p.m. in the New Gym.

In a few short months ninth grade students will be moving on to 10th grade! To celebrate this milestone, Holmes will be hosting our 9th grade dance on Saturday, May 9th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at Holmes Junior High. We need your help to make this a great night of dancing and fun for them.
