Team Lincoln Families, we need your help at dismissal each day. Please ensure students are picked up promptly at 3:45 or 1:50 every Wednesday. If you cannot be on time, please communicate this to the school in advance. Our staff prepare for instruction each afternoon following dismissal, thank you for allowing us to be prepared for the following school day!

Fall Conferences - We are excited to welcome our families and students for conferences on November 12th (4:15-8:15) and 14th (1:00-8:00). We ask our students to attend conferences with our families as we work to involve them in sharing their learning. Please use these directions to sign up beginning October 18th and will close on November 3rd (https://tinyurl.com/ynrbu5b8)! If you need help scheduling, you can also call the school at 319.553.2950. It is our goal to meet with every student and family!

Halloween Plans for Thursday, October 31st - We will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, October 31st! We invite our Kinder, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grade students to bring costumes to school, they will put them on before our parade. This is encouraged, but not required. Our 5th and 6th grade students will not dress in costumes. We ask our families to support all students by not including costumes that might scare others, including fake weapons or blood. We plan to do a very short parade for our Kindergarten through 4th grade students that will begin at approximately 3:00 PM. We will watch the weather and make a decision that morning if we will be outside or in the building. To support the end of the day in the event you wish to take your students before dismissal, we will ask all families to let us know in advance and we will create a pick up location. Please do not plan to go to classrooms if you choose to pick up before 3:45 PM. You can note your desire to pick up early here to help us prepare! (https://tinyurl.com/4uvf345f

Lincoln will practice our off site evacuation drill on Friday, November 1st. If you have questions or would like to opt out, please make contact with Mr. Bryant.

Backpack Program - Lincoln Elementary is again partnering with the Northeast Iowa Food Bank to provide the BackPack Program to students during the 2022-23 school year. The BackPack Program is a FREE program that provides kid-friendly, non-perishable food for students most in need, to eat over the weekends and breaks when school meals are not available and there may be little or no food to eat. Please carefully consider your family's economic status and determine if this program is something needed by your child(ren). If the BackPack program is something your family could depend on, please complete the attached registration form and return it with your student to school. Only one registration form (https://tinyurl.com/5n7rsbka) needs to be completed to include all of the students in your home, and can be given to your child's teacher or the office. If you are interested in the program, but would like us to send the registration form home with your child, please email Mrs. Jacobsen (jennifer.jacobsen@cfschools.org) as soon as possible. Delivery will begin in mid October, but we can add children at any time. Along with the registration form, there is a letter included with more detailed information. Please let me know if you have further questions or are interested in receiving food this year. Thank you,  Jennifer Jacobsen, School Counselor

Winter is Coming! If you are in need of Winter Gear this year (Coats, snow pants and/or boots), please fill out this Google Form (https://tinyurl.com/2zm2jnhs).  Lincoln is partnering with Koats 4 Kids and will do our best to match your student with needed items.  Please fill out as soon as possible, or by October 25th to allow us time to collect the items before the cold weather hits!

Attendance Updates (https://tinyurl.com/yc6z9kf9)  - please carefully review attendance updates for our district according to recent legislation at the state level. If you have any questions, please direct them to Mr. Bryant.

Arrival And Dismissal - we want to help our students safely enter and leave the building each day. In the morning, we will ask students to arrive between 8:30 and 8:45. They will report to their classrooms or to the cafeteria for breakfast, if needed. At the end of the day, we will dismiss students beginning with Kindergarten and ending with 6th grade. Our staff will walk students to the door. Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students will dismiss at their outside classroom doors, second grade will dismiss onto the east playground, third grade will also dismiss onto the east playground, fourth grade will dismiss using our main entrance doors on 8th street and 5th and 6th grade will dismiss using our 7th street doors. We appreciate families making and following consistent after school plans. We will not have supervision for students prior to 8:30 AM each morning, please do not send your students before this time. Thank you for helping us support safe morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals!

Cedar Falls High School Home Football Games - Elementary students attending Cedar Falls football games at the new high school stadium are expected to sit with their parent/guardian or an adult supervising them.  Roaming the stadium unsupervised is not allowed.

Wednesday Early Dismissal - we dismiss every Wednesday at 1:50 PM. Please be sure to set a reminder to pick up students promptly. Our staff use this time to collaborate to support learning for our students.

Snacks and Birthday Treats - We are proud to be a Blue Zones school and encourage healthy choices when students bring food for their daily snack. In addition, to support safety this school year when celebrating birthdays, we will ask for families to bring prepackaged items to minimize handling. Thank you!

CKLA/Amplify Supports -  The English/Language Arts (ELA) resource we use in our district is called CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) from grades Kindergarten through 5th and Amplify for 6th grade. We will send home paper copies of the “Caregiver Letter” each time we begin a new unit and want to share these with our families each week. We encourage you to use the conversation starters!

Illustrative Math - We are excited to continue to deliver Illustrative Math to our students this year! This is a problem-based curriculum where students spend most of their time in class working on problems. Teachers help students understand the problems, ask questions to push their thinking and facilitate discussions to help students. Our goal is to help students build understanding of mathematical concepts and procedures as well as to apply this knowledge to new situations. During Math, students will collaborate with their classmates to talk about math, listen to each other’s ideas, justify their thinking and discuss their thinking. They gain experience communicating their ideas both verbally and in writing. This kind of instruction may look different from what you experienced in your own math education. Current research says that students need to be able to think flexibly in order to use mathematical skills in their lives and also on the types of tests they will encounter. Flexible thinking relies on understanding concepts and making connections between them. We plan to share family support materials for each unit as we appreciate your support at home!
