David is passionate about fostering deep and positive relationships through service and trust so he can be a Champion for teachers and students alike.
Prior to serving as a Talented and Gifted teacher for Cedar Falls Community School District, David was a high school math teacher for the Charles City Community School District. During his time in the classroom, he taught and co-taught a variety of courses and worked to implement individualized learning opportunities, as well as project-based learning experiences. He was the recipient of KIMT’s Golden Apple Award and the Comet Foundation’s Excellence Award. In 2019, he was honored with a Wartburg College Young Alumni Award for his leadership and service.
After 9 years of teaching mathematics, he became a K-12 Instructional Coach and Charles City’s District TLC Coordinator, a role in which he utilized his passion for developing and implementing systems that promote reflection and the enhancement of capacity-building skills amongst others. He also created the district's Student Teaching Academy, enhanced the district's mentoring and induction program, and facilitated Learning Walks and Learning Labs to enhance teacher practice.
With a mindset of "it doesn't matter, get better," David consistently looks for growth opportunities, earning a Master's in Educational Leadership in 2011, an Instructional Coach Certificate from UNI in 2016 and a second from Central Rivers AEA in 2018. In 2024, he earned his endorsement in Talented and Gifted education.
